Greetings, friends, members, and supporters of our church in Clevedon, Kawakawa Bay, Orere Point, Conifer Grove, Takanini, and the southern part of Auckland—and beyond.
The Peace of Christ be with you!
Let us Pray
We thank you Lord,
for those who have been generous toward us –
for those who have given freely of their time, their money and the things that are precious to them.
We give thanks for the blessings and privileges we enjoy,
And how these things enable us to give to others.
Open our hearts and hands we pray,
help us, in what we do,
to be faithful witnesses to the abundance and generosity of your love.
In Christ’s name
AMEN
Gospel Generosity in Action
It was a true blessing to present, on behalf of our congregations and Drury Presbyterian Church, food vouchers to support the children and families at Kereru Park School.
Through the generosity of our Angel Tree appeal, over $3,300 was raised. These funds were used to purchase ‘Mad Butcher’ food vouchers, bringing tangible support to families facing significant economic challenges.
Emma from Kereru Park School told us how these vouchers will make a significant difference, helping 35 families experience the joy of
Christmas.
Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute—you’ve made a meaningful impact in our community!
Pictured is my wife, Sandy, Emma Hole from Kereru Park School, Sarah Corson – who founded the Painga Project, and me.
Generosity in Scripture
There is no doubt, in Scripture, about the call to share the blessings we enjoy. Our generosity reflects our faith and awareness of the abundance of blessing we receive from God.
In Luke 6 we read:
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
And in Acts 20:
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
In Paul’s letter to the church in Corinth, he wrote:
6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.” (2 Cor 9)
Let Us Pray
We pray today, Lord of abundant love,
for the greedy and miserly.
For all those with hearts hardened to the needs of others,
and those whose fear and insecurity lead them to build ever bigger barns, filled with their wealth and possessions.
Free us, we pray, from putting our trust in idols.
and help us to celebrate that “every good and perfect gift” comes from you.
In the name of Jesus, we pray.
AMEN
