We believe people get involved in our church because they want to be part of a faith community that has a strong outward sense of purpose and mission. We think the journey following the way of Jesus includes people from a diversity of backgrounds, views and perspectives on faith. We are a church that respects and treasures diversity and believe that through good relationships, open discussion and a genuine desire to seek God’s calling allows us to grow as people and a community together.
Welcome to our church.
Whether you have been coming to a church all your life or this is the very first time you’ve wanted to know more about God and Jesus we love having people join our community and participate in any way they can.
You will find our ministers or those who lead our ministry teams, or our elders more than happy to talk about where things are at with you, or to provide prayer or any support that we can.
There is no ‘hard sell’ here or judgment. We just hope that you will feel a welcome at one of ours services, or home or discussion groups.
If you want to get on the mailing list or would like to have one of our ministers’ drop around, then just give the office a call or fill in a form on Sunday morning.
People are welcome to be fully part of our life, whoever they are and whatever they are able to contribute. Coming to church or joining in any of our home groups or church run activities is free.
The people at our church are incredibly generous in their commitment of time and money. But not everyone is in the same situation.
If you feel you can give a little or a lot – that’s wonderful! Because we could not do the things we do without support.
Most of the money given goes to support the church’s ministries and to support our mission here and beyond.
We are a registered charity, with Donee receipt status. We issue Donee receipts for all donations received. Our accounts are audited each year.
If you would like to make a financial contribution please contact the office. We can process donations, Eft-Pos and credit card transactions or automatic payments. Your giving is dealt with in confidence. (Or you can donate through our secure online service)
We rely on a wonderful team of volunteers for almost all aspects of our church’s life and mission.
Depending on your skills, gifts and interests there are opportunities to serve on our work with children youth and families, music, mission, running home groups, administration and a lot more.
Simply talk to one of our ministry team leaders or the ministers about areas you would like to help with.
Everyone is welcome
We value the participation and involvement of everyone who comes along on Sunday or who participates in any of our activities. In terms of everyday involvement and support we don’t separate people into groups of members and ‘non-members.
Baptism, confirmation and giving testimony
However, there are important things in the Christian church which we want to affirm.
The primary symbol or sacrament indicating a commitment to follow Jesus and accept God’s love and enter into the life of the Christian community is through the act of Baptism.
When we Baptise infants and children we are affirming God’s love for them even before they can begin understanding what that might mean. We are also saying that the child’s family and community play a central role in nurturing that child and teaching him or her all about Jesus, and God’s love,
When we baptise adults we are affirming their commitment and decision to follow Jesus.
For those who have been baptised as children or adults but want to confirm or reaffirm their commitment to Christ or the commitment made on their behalf by their parents, we encourage them to publicly declare their faith and provide prayers for them at this time.
It is important for us, especially at times when key decisions need to be made about our future, that we can identify a core of people who have a commitment to our life together as a church community. We identify this group as members of Clevedon Presbyterian Church.
It is important for us to know that there is a group of people who we can especially count on to support and guide our church.
If you would like to become a formal member of Clevedon Presbyterian, then please talk to Martin or Mark or our Parish Clerk, Cameron Smith.
